Step 6. Customs clearance of goods from China
When a consignment of goods enters the country you need, it is checked at the customs office at the airport, railway station or port.
To pick up goods from customs or a warehouse, you need to “clear” it: provide documents and pay a fee. Of the documents you will need: a customs declaration, an agreement, consignment and transport waybills, payments for goods.
Customs brokers help you clear customs. They contact suppliers, request information and documents on goods, fill out a declaration, pay duties and clear the goods.
Broker services cost from 15 to 30 thousand rubles per batch of goods. If you use brokers through logistics companies, it will be a little cheaper.
Step 7. Delivery of goods to buyer
Today, when customs clearance of your goods, you have three ways of development of events:
- Import clearance is handled by your logistics partner, which has its own declarants or partnerships with independent customs brokers;
- Import clearance is handled by an independent customs broker;
- You are responsible for import clearance if you have your own qualified declarant.
As in the delivery phase, your core competencies here are to organize effective communications between all participants in your supply chain, monitor the customs clearance process in real time, respond in a timely manner to any situation, manage your customs partner and the entire process.
The last two stages can be a real nightmare for you, trust my personal experience.
We want to say about control functions. They cannot be singled out as a separate stage, because control must be carried out by you at all stages, from beginning to end. Especially your control function should be sharpened at all stages that take place in China. Nothing can be given to the Chinese side, without control.
Control all steps!
Control the purchase, production, shipping, export documentation that the Chinese make (for you, this is import documentation), etc. Carry out agreed and non-agreed checks!
Anything you can do well, do it yourself. What you physically cannot do or what you do not have enough professional competencies for – entrust specialized companies and specialists.
Organize inspections of the enterprise, inspections of the production process, quality inspections of raw materials and materials from which products will be made for you, quality inspections of products in the production process, quality inspections of finished products, pre-shipment inspections, inspections during loading.
Most importantly, if you are a “thrifty” businessman, remember that a miser pays twice.
