What is Amazon Inspire?
Amazon has updated its app to include Amazon Inspire. It’s a new format for a personalized feed with short videos and photos. Marketplace customers can use videos to view and buy products with a “one-click” experience.
The feature is designed to shift consumers’ attention away from apps like TikTok, where brands can sell directly to consumers. Influencers and brand representatives, as well as ordinary users, are planned to create content in Inspire.
As of December, the new feature is only available to select customers in the U.S. After it leaves the beta test, it will be scaled up and launched for other customers by spring.
Why did Amazon create Inspire?
Amazon’s innovation resembles the appearance of the TikTok platform. A little later the novelty will be widely distributed. With Inspire, Amazon plans to “hold” customers on the platform, because they usually come here with a certain request. After finding what they need, placing an order, users leave the site. Now, however, there is a chance that customers will linger on Inspire to browse a feed of attractive photos and videos.
Amazon has been using static images and product descriptions to create a unified catalog for quite some time. On the one hand, this makes it easier for customers to find products, but customers continue to “take what they need” without paying attention to attempts to engage from the marketplace.
The new Amazon Inspire service, which will appear in the app as a lightbulb icon, will offer shoppers a choice of more than 20 interests, including makeup, pets and games. These will be used to customize custom channels. Shoppers will be able to purchase items posted by other customers, brands and influencers. The implication is that in a few clicks, customers can discover new products and be inspired to buy what Inspire will offer them according to their interests, from pet products to craft kits.
Analysts express uncertainty about how long the platform will stick around – if Amazon isn’t satisfied with the short-term results, the company may discard the idea as discreetly as it introduced it.
When will Inspire be available to me?
It rolled out to select customers in the U.S. in early December, and will be available to all U.S. and worldwide customers in the coming months.
How does Inspire recommend my content?
Amazon takes into account many preferences that are unique to you, so no two feeds are the same. For example, the interests you chose when you first opened Inspire and the content you like in the feed.
How can I create content for Inspire?
- Customers
Amazon customers who post product reviews with a video or image are eligible to appear in Inspire. Currently, there is no way to choose which reviews make it into the feed available for purchase; it happens randomly.
In the image below, you can see the star rating at the top, which indicates that this is a product review posted by a customer.
- Amazon Influencers
If you participate in the Amazon Influencer Program, photos and videos posted to your Amazon Influencer showcase can appear in Inspire.
You can tell by the “Earns commissions” tag that the image below was posted by an Influencer. This is a good opportunity to work with Amazon Influencers in your niche.
- Brands
If you are a merchant or seller participating in the Brand Registry program and have an active Brand Store, qualifying photos you post in Brand Posts may appear in Inspire.
As a brand owner, you should actively post content to Amazon Posts to increase the chances of your products appearing in shoppers’ shopping feeds.
How to get started with Amazon Inspire?
- Open the Amazon Shopping app
- Tap the “light bulb” icon on the bottom navigation bar, select your favorite interests, then you’re ready to start scrolling!
To get to all reviews for a product, tap its thumbnail—if you don’t see the “light bulb” icon yet, keep an eye on the app as it will appear for all U.S. customers in the coming months.
