Amazon listing restrictions: How to avoid policy violations

It is the seller’s responsibility to comply with all Amazon policies when listing your products. But how to avoid Amazon listing restrictions when creating a listing?

Amazon warns that you could lose your selling rights if your listings are not in line with Amazon metrics and policies. Hence, it is very important to learn their rules and policies!

Amazon listing main policy

  • All statements you put forward must be ACCURATE

When you make some claims in your listings, they must be pinpointed.

A statement can be misleading if the relevant information is not provided or if it suggests something that is not true.

First, you must provide evidence when making statements, especially when they relate to health, safety, or quality issues.

Second, you must provide Amazon with documents to support any claim you request to include in the listing. These can include scientific evidence such as test results or other research carried out by experts.

  • ‘Made in USA’ label clarifications

Any product that you describe or label as “Made in the USA” must be wholly or substantially manufactured in the United States.

  • No false medical claims

You cannot make any false medical claims if they exceed the approved indications for the use specified by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration).

For example, if some device is approved for use by adults, you can’t say it is also suitable for children.

  • Medical equipment, food, medicine, and cosmetics – ONLY original certificates!

If you have a US item in your inventory that is subject to the US Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA), you must provide a warranty for the item in the following format:

“All food, drug, medical device, and cosmetic products are guaranteed not to be adulterated or misbranded, as defined by the FFDCA, as of the date they are shipped. They are guaranteed to be articles permitted for interstate commerce, as defined by sections 404, 505, and 512 of the FFDCA. These guarantees apply to every shipment you have made and will make in future, and to every shipment made on your behalf by another party. ”

  • Only honest reviews

Reviews for your product must adhere to guidelines for using reviews and recommendations in advertising. Accordingly, you should be as transparent as possible in your relationship with the buyer. DO NOT pay or provide a free product for a positive review!

  • ‘Money-back guarantee’ claim is a MUST

Your listings must comply with warranties and warranties advertising guidelines.

Moreover, if you use phrases like “satisfaction guaranteed” or “money-back guarantee” on Amazon, you should be prepared to provide a full refund for any reason.

  • Be very careful when selling silver and gold.

Jewelry listings, including eyeglass frames, pens, and cutlery, must contain accurate and complete product quality information.

Products labeled “silver” or “sterling silver” must contain at least 92.5% silver.

The gold and platinum content must match the quality described on the details page and the grade stamped on the product. Simulated gemstones must be marked accordingly.

You must report all types of diamond or gem processing.

  • Laser products are not safe

When selling laser products on Amazon, you must indicate the laser hazard class and human accessible power output (measured in milliwatts) in the listing.

You may not list laser products that exceed the Class IIIA emission limits, or children’s toy laser products that exceed the Class I emission limits.

The laser hazard class must be verified by an independent laboratory in accordance with 21 CFR 1040.10 and IEC 60825-1 standard.

Consequences of breaking Amazon listing restrictions

Violation of the Amazon listing policy may result in the following consequences:

  1. Amazon may delete your listing
  2. You may lose selling rights
  3. The company may suspend your listings

As a result, Amazon reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to make judgments about whether a listing complies with the company’s policies or not.

Consequently, Amazon officially states:

When you sell on Amazon, you must comply with federal, state, and local laws and Amazon policies that apply to your items and listings.

Be vigilant and careful!
