In 2007 Amazon launched its online payment service Amazon Pay.

Amazon Pay is a service that lets you use the payment information stored in your Amazon account to pay for items on other websites. It works just like using your Amazon account to buy something on Amazon, so you don’t have to enter your credit card or billing address every time you make a purchase.

To use Amazon Pay, go to checkout on the website where you want to make a purchase. You’ll see an option to pay with Amazon Pay at the bottom of the page. Then just sign in with your Amazon username and password, confirm your order details, and click “Submit.”

What are the benefits of using Amazon Pay for shoppers?

Payment process

The payment process will be simplified: to pay for an order you do not need your card details. Why? As you will use your Amazon account data.

Fees

No fees to your transaction with websites and organizations that accept Amazon Pay (Amazon only charges merchants).

Payment security

Information about your card will be owned only by Amazon. Sites or charitable organizations that accept Amazon Pay will have no access.

Review your transactions

You can review all transactions made and filter them by activity type, events as well as by date.

By the way, Amazon Pay is also beneficial for businesses: from small and medium businesses to large enterprises and nonprofits.

And shoppers using this Amazon service can pay both from their laptops, and mobile phones as well as by asking Amazon’s virtual assistant Alexa.

Let’s now compare some payment options: by credit card, by PayPal, and by Amazon Pay

Security

The credit card option will be immediately crossed off in this case. PayPal and Amazon are equally goods in terms of security: both services can refund your purchase fee, and both services do not transfer your personal data to merchants.

Delivery

Many stores do not accept cards of other countries. While using Amazon or PayPal, stores will interact directly with your account.

Registration

Both Amazon Pay and PayPal offer a simple registration mechanism.

Support

If you use Amazon Pay and have questions, you should raise query through a web form, the Amazon support team contacts you. Meanwhile, PayPal has a virtual assistant to help its customers, and it offers free phone support to help merchants as well.

Account

You can pay via PayPal even if you don’t have an account. While payments via Amazon Pay require an Amazon account.

Amazon Pay: Which one to choose if you are a merchant?

The answer depends on the location of your business and the markets you target. By the way, you can use both to give your customers payment options 🙂
